All:

As you are aware, the department has specific guidelines in place for what type of event necessitates the need for a full department recall. In those instances, the department understands the need for additional personnel to adequately staff the department whether that be for response or to backfill for apparatus that is out of town and unavailable. We have had conversations over the last six months regarding the need for department staff to respond when recalled. As a combination department, we depend on recall staffing to provide safe and effective operations when we are overwhelmed by a single or multiple incidents. It is disheartening to the command staff and the on-duty staff when the department is in need, sends out three all call tones for coverage and two members are all that respond, especially at a time when our mutual aid partners are in the same cirucmstance. Thank you to the members who responded on such a cold night. Coming back for training sessions and organizational meetings are good but what are we doing if that does not translate into actual time operating in the role of a firefighter? It is understandable that individual lives are busy and commitments make response at times difficult but we ask that you respond when you can, no matter the weather because when we recall the department it means that we need staff to respond.

Thanks:

Chief Hall
