Please see the email below from D8 regarding upcoming Fire Instructor
and Fire Officer courses that will be offered and instructed by the
district. Currently, the first class, Hazmat OLR is the only one
scheduled. If you are interested in attending any of the courses,
please fill out the attached sign up sheet and return in to either
myself or the Deputy so that we can get a cost and determine a priority
list. As it stands, they are offering 1 seat to each town to start and
will offer towns additional seats based upon the sign up. Any
questions, please let us know, once the dates for the Fire Instructor
and Fire Officer programs are released, we will get them out.

Good morning, Chiefs,
The board of directors have approved some exciting training
opportunities for members of the district in hopes giving
opportunities to those in your departments who you have recently
promoted or those who aspire to become officers. There will be
three training courses held this year,
Hazardous Materials for First Responders (OLR), Fire Instructor I,
and Fire Officer I. The lead instructor for these courses will be
Chief Joseph Guarnera, and he will be assisted by Chief Joseph
Flanagan. These will be taught by the NFPA standard and will be
utilizing IFSTA training materials. As of this time, students will
need to challenge the Certification portion of Fire Instructor I and
Fire Officer I through the Fire Academy, however we will be working
to see if we can arrange certification testing as part of those
classes.
Once a student is registered and accepted, they will receive an
acknowledgement email from Chief Zbikowski with a link and passcode
to the IFSTA website to purchase their textbook and optional
workbooks. These will be offered at a reduced rate to our students
thanks to work done by Chief Guarnera.
There will be a fee for the classes that will be used to offset
costs for the instructors. Training materials are not included in
the class fee.
Any students interested in any of the classes will need to respond
to Secretary / Treasurer Paul Zbikowski at massfiredistrict8 at gmail.com
Class sizes will be limited to 24 students and 100% attendance is
required. There will be no make-ups. Interested students will need
to include the following information:
* Name
* Department
* Address
* Email address
* Cell phone
* Current Rank
* Date of Hire
* Brief narrative of why they want to take this class
The first class to be offered will be:
