<p class="MsoNormal">On Monday, many EMS providers received the information below concerning a certification extension to 6/30/21 for those with previous extensions expiring in 2020, and those expiring on 3/31/21. Please be advised the extension <b>only applies to “STEP B,”</b> which is the MA OEMS/DPH component to your recertification. </p>

<p> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Should you wish to maintain your certification past the MA OEMS extension, you <b>must</b> complete your continuing education requirements and recert application via NREMT.org (“STEP A”) by <b>MARCH 31, 2021</b> (or for 2020 expirations, by June 30, 2020). If STEP A is not completed on-time, you would need to obtain National Registry Certification by a full psychomotor exam and skills verification in order to keep your certification past the MA extension date. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">To keep it simple: complete your continuing education and recert application on NREMT.org as you normally would unless you want a much more complicated process to retain your certification past June 30, 2021. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal">On Friday, the Governor extended his ordered extension to EMT certification expirations, and we’ve now sent emails to everyone expiring in either 2020 or 2021.</p>
<p> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p> </p>
<p> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In short, all certifications have been <b>extended to 6/30/2021</b>, however the con-ed deadlines remain in place (are not changing). All the details can be found (and shared) at <a href="https://www.mass.gov/how-to/renew-your-emt-advanced-emt-or-paramedic-certification">https://www.mass.gov/how-to/renew-your-emt-advanced-emt-or-paramedic-certification</a> and <a href="https://www.mass.gov/guides/covid-19-and-ma-ems-certification">https://www.mass.gov/guides/covid-19-and-ma-ems-certification</a> (note, we are expecting updates to post to both pages by COB today).</p>

<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level2 lfo3">EMTs may continue operating until <b>June 30, 2021</b>
<p> </p>
</li>
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level2 lfo3">If Step A was completed in time, and NREMT.org indicates a 3/31/2022 expiration, EMTs should check eLicensing to see if they have renewed. If they have <u>not completed Step B, <b>they should email <a href="mailto:oems.recert@mass.gov">oems.recert@mass.gov</a>,</b></u> and we will send them a paper recertification application.

<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level2 lfo3">If Step A was <b>not</b> completed in time, EMTs must obtain NR in order to renew/practice after June 2021. They can do so by:

<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level3 lfo3">Submitting an application on nremt.org (for re-entry, based on <u>current</u> state license.
<p> </p>
</li>
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level3 lfo3">They will need to submit documentation of education (NCCP), then complete a cognitive exam, and psychomotor.
<p> </p>
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l1 level4 lfo3">Folks in this situation do not need to complete a full psychomotor, rather, they can take a skills verification. The Skills Verification is available until June 30, 2021. After that, they should follow the reinstatement instructions, at <a href="https://www.mass.gov/service-details/reinstate-your-expired-emt-certification">https://www.mass.gov/service-details/reinstate-your-expired-emt-certification</a>.
